MRS. VELMA RUTH PETERSEN

HUMBOLDT – Mrs. Velma Ruth Petersen, 79, collapsed in front of her house
in Humboldt Thursday afternoon and was dead on arrival at Humboldt County
Memorial Hospital.

She has just gone out to shovel her walks and was seen by a student from
the school across the street, who called an ambulance.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Baptist Church with burial
in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Friends may call at Lindhart Funeral Home
after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Surviving are three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Velma Ruth Petersen was born at Newell and as a child moved with her
family to Graettinger. After her graduation from Graettinger High School
she attended Buena Vista College, Storm Lake. The family then moved
to Arnold where she helped her father with operation of a general store.
She also served as postmaster of Arnold.

She married Soren Petersen. The couple lived in Arnold for a time and
in 1928 they moved to Belmond where they operated the Petersen Café
until retirement in 1943. The couple then moved to Humboldt. Mr. Petersen
died in 1964 and Mrs. Petersen had continued to live in Humboldt.

She had the record of the longest membership in the Oak Hill Baptist Church
and was a member of the Baptist Conference Women.

Velma blev gift med Søren Pedersen, søn af husmand, tækkemand Jens Christian Pedersen og Jensine Pouline Jensdatter, den 15 Feb. 1925 i Humboldt, Humboldt, Iowa, USA. (Søren Pedersen blev født den 31 Okt. 1886 i Tranekær, Jetsmark Sogn, Hjørring Amt, dåb den 5 Dec. 1886 i Jetsmark kirke, døde den 12 Sep. 1964 i Humboldt, Humboldt, Iowa, USA og blev begravet den 15 Sep. 1964 i Union Cemetery, Humbolt.)
